Plant Stress and susceptibility to diseases
Fruit trees under stress are more susceptible to infections by Apple Canker (Neonectria ditissima) and Pear Brown Spot (Stemphylium vesicarium). Trees in orchard parts where waterlogging is frequently occurring suffer more form these diseases.
The same may apply to other diseases.
The Plant Stress model indicates periods of waterlogging that blocks gas exchange, and lead to oxygen deficiency in the root zone.
Saturation of the soil is the balance between rainfall and the speed the water can penetrate the soil. The permeability of the soil, K=Coefficient of Permeability, is depending on the soil type.
The model is added to the platform to understand better why some infection events seem to cause considerably more disease in certain orchards (or parts of orchards), than foreseen by the infection models.
